Description:

A annual celebration of the beauty within the Queer community and their many allies at UCSC. This campus wide march and festival includes entertainment, crafts, food and keynote speaker. All are welcome to join us for this very special event.

Every spring the Kresge Multicultural Education Committee puts on Kresge Presents: PRIDE, a celebration dedicated to uplifting the LGBTQ and ally community at UCSC and showing solidarity with those affected by such issues. UC Santa Cruz is the only UC to have an event like this.

Kresge PRIDE begins with a march, starting in Quarry Plaza, and travelling around the entire campus until it finishes on Kresge Lower Street. All the 10 colleges and residential units get to participate in the march by hosting “stops” that involve a special PRIDE activity and food. When the march ends, the festival at Kresge begins, with performances by on-campus and local Santa Cruz groups, guest speakers, and activity booths representing various LGBTQ-related organizations and local shops. KMEC’s goal is to put on an event that is safe, fun, and empowering for LGBTQ students of all backgrounds and identities, and to enforce the place of LGBTQ issues as a priority at UCSC.

KMEC typically begins to plan PRIDE at the beginning of winter quarter each year, during regular KMEC meetings. Anybody can join the committee—participation from all ten UCSC colleges is much appreciated and encouraged.
