Kresge College will offer three optional creative labs in conjunction with the Power and Representation core course. The fall quarter core course is required for all new first-year (frosh) students, and culminates in a final creative project. Students participating in the core course labs will work collaboratively to produce final projects that draw from their creative interests.

The Food & Community course, offered by Kresge Garden coordinator and long-time instructor Dave Shaw, will explore the core course themes "through the medium of food, nature awareness, community, personal emplowerment, and sustainable living."

Shaw says that students "will develop meaningful final projects in collabroation with the Kresge Food Co-op, Kresge Garden Co-op, Kresge World Cafe, and projects of their own design." The Food and Garden co-ops and the World Cafe are existing student-run programs that all Kresge students are eligible to get involved in, regardless of whether they participate in the food lab.

Students living in Kresge's Writers House residential building will have first dibs on the Art & Visual Performance and Creative Writing labs; any remaining spaces will be opened up to the greater frosh population.

The labs are optional, and space is limited. Interested students should plan to enroll as soon as the courses open on the morning of Wednesday, September 7, at 9 o'clock.
