Everything & Anything You Do Will Helps - Reduce Your Use

Turn off the water when you brush your teeth, soaping your  hands, shaving, washing dishes, etc.

Shorten your Showers by 20% by turning off the water when shampoo or lather.  Or just take shorter showers.

DonÕt let dishes sit out.  Fill a sink and soak them to keep food from hardening onto pots, pans, silverware, plates, etc.

Talk to your housemates about a flushing  and cleaning protocol for your toilet.

Only run full loads in your laundry or dishwashing machine.

Report any plumbing or fixture leaks via fixit.ucsc.edu

DonÕt Contaminate the Water You Use - Allow for Re-use

Use reused dishwater to water plants, indoor or outdoor.

DonÕt dump your unused medicines, cleaning solvents, paints, dyes, detergents, lotions, down the drain.  Find a depot.*  You can have your hazardous materials picked up through fixit.ucsc.edu.  You can drop off old medications, ointments, creams, etc. at the UCSC Health Center.

Use only phosphate-free, dye-free, biodegradable cleaners.

Vinegar, Baking Soda, Calcium Carbonate, and Castille Soap are all you need for 99% of household cleaning.

DonÕt use commercial drain or oven cleaners, they are unneccesary, toxic, and usually wonÕt work at Kresge.

Think BEFORE you buy a hazardous chemical or product.  There are always alternatives.

Commercial meat manufacturing is one of the largest consumers of water.  If you eat meat, eat less, eat local.
