Fall 2009: Week 6
Big deadlines coming up this week! And don't forget to take advantage of our first 08-09 advising event at Porter College tomorrow night. (Not to mention all of the other academic opportunities listed below...)
IN THIS ISSUE
Deadline to Request a W (Withdraw Grade Notation): Wed., November 4
Wednesday, November 4th is your last opportunity to visit your college adviser to request to withdraw from a fall course, except for documented serious medical or family emergencies. To request a “W” notation, see your college adviser for a Petition to Withdraw from a Course with a ‘W’ Notation. This transaction must be made in person during your college’s advising hours; please take note of your college’s advising hours to avoid missing this deadline.
After November 4th, you’ll need to consider yourself committed to your courses. If you think you might fail a class this quarter, it's a good idea to talk with your instructor or TA to determine whether there are any options for passing the course. If an F or a D seems likely, withdrawing from the course will protect your GPA. If you took the class for the P/NP option, a “W” notation will prevent a "NP" grade from appearing on your official transcript.

DEADLINE TO WITHDRAW FROM UCSC: WED, NOVEMBER 4
November 4th is also the last day to file a petition to withdraw from the university during fall quarter, except for documented serious medical or family emergencies. A withdrawal from the university up to this date removes you from your classes and clears your transcript of fall 2009 courses. After the deadline passes, your UCSC transcript will reflect your fall enrollments and grades. Forms are available from your college or from http://advising.ucsc.edu/student.
It is very important to see an adviser if you plan to withdraw from the university to discuss the impact on your academic record (including possible financial implications) and to establish an effective date for the withdrawal. The effective date of your withdrawal is the first date that you notify the college that you plan to withdraw from the university.

ADD BY PETITION DEADLINE: WED, NOVEMBER 4
November 4 is your final opportunity to add a class to your fall quarter record. The petitions are available at the Registrar’s Office and require the signature of your instructor and the chair of the academic department offering the course. (You may also need the signature of your college adviser if adding the class brings your total credits to 20 or more and your GPA does not make you eligible for more than 19 credits.)
There is a $10 fee to file an Add by Petition form. It’s a good idea to double-check your enrollments now (https://my.ucsc.edu) just in case a class you are attending is not on your record.
